My journey to Sandusky,Ohio...Part 1

Farewell dinner with dragonboat friends:

Hey guys, sorry for not updating my blog for sometime. Anyway, many thanks to Justin, calvin, shuhui, val and Katherine for sending me off at the airport. Hope u guys doing well in sg. Alright lets talk abt my first day in Ohio. I’ll try to put up pics taken during the journey. Internet connection here is very bad and slow so have difficulties getting online most times.

I had to travel far from sg. From sg to Taipei, then stopover at Seattle for immigration checks. There, I was given the fright of my life as the immigration officer asked me to stay put while my friends passed thru. They asked me to pick up my luggage as they wanna check my overweight bag, suspecting I might be carrying drugs or else. The officer sucks as he messed up my stuffs in my backpack but thank God my luggage wasn’t that messed up. Then, I was cleared to go and from Seattle, i continued the flight to New York airport where I had to wait 6 hrs for my domestic flight to Cleveland. During the wait, I got to know this nice old guy, a Permanent Resident in the States, originally from Beijing. We chatted the whole time during the wait to kill the time. At 4am, we can finally check in. This time, the immigration process is smoother, probably coz I’m already cleared at Seattle. After the checkin, we had breakfast at the airport itself. After breakfast, we bade farewell to each other. Since, I still have an hour left before boarding time, I took sometime to window shop around the airport. It was nice and I bought 2 fitness magazines from borders there. They were also selling adult magazines but I was too shy to take and read them for fear they might misunderstood me for an underage. Haha…

Boarding time was 5.55am in NY. I was in the plane but soon the pilot informed all its passengers tat there was a mechanical failure and so we had to change to another plane. The domestic flight was delayed for 1 hr plus until we could get onto the next plane. The new plane soon left at abt 9 something before I reached Cleveland around 11 plus. I can’t believe I’m traveling alone now cos none of my friends are on the domestic flight and from onwards I’m all alone. At Cleveland, I asked ard for the nearest Greyhound bus terminal. A nice staff there led me to an indoor train, the Railway Transit (RTA) where I had to take from the airport to Tower City. I took the train, and this nice black old man helped me wit the directions and when to alight. I realized he’s from the catholic church and he gave me his contact in case I needed help in Cleveland. Wat a nice man! People in the States, especially Cleveland and Ohio are all so friendly and helpful. At Tower City, I walked all the way to the greyhound station. Had to ask for directions and the people there were wonderful and helpful. Unfortunately, my big luggage bag had been damaged due to its rollers. One of its wheels had been squashed and so I had a hard time dragging it from Tower City station to the Greyhound bus terminal. I walked an estimated 20 mins I think. Once at Greyhound, I was on time for the 12.15pm bus trip to Sandusky station. If I had missed it, I would have to wait another 5 hrs for the next bus. I still haven eaten my lunch. So damn hungry and alone…

The bus took 1 and a half hour to reach Sandusky. There, I bought something to munch and met another American girl who was also going to Cedar point to work. We called the Park and soon a lady picked us up. She drove us to Cedar point where I was led to the staff employment process and soon gotten my apartment.

I was somehow unfortunate as the apartment with all Singaporeans had no vacancy left so I was given an apartment with lots of Thai student/staffs. They are nice but they always messed up the living room with their cooking and stuffs and also kinda noisy. But at least, they’re nice to me. Each apartment has about 4 rooms and each room has 3 beds. My room has noone expect me, so tats good in a way as I have all the privacy to myself. However, the toilet sucks, damn old and the water can be very cold at times when the hot water runs out.

I started work on the 10 may. It was kinda fun and the manager is quite a nice guy. He told us to look busy but do not need to work hard. haha

Also, my workplace has 5-6 sgporeans so it’s not so bad. My working hours was supposed to be 11am to closing time which depends on the season. For now, its 11-8pm but when there’s too many staffs, the supervisor will tell some of us to take a break or may go back and rest.

The park is damn big and u guys ought to come here to try the rides. The roller coasters were damn cool and high; full of different kinds of roller coasters. There is even one wic goes underwater. Cool, right?

I haven been around the place much as still adapting to it. Oh yes, I suffered jet lag de past few days. Damn sleepy and tired but now I’m better but still missing u guys…

Exams are over... Thanks goodness there will be no more mugging in NUS.

After my last paper, went out with shu hui, valerie and kat to town for buffet lunch and window shopping. We had lots of fun taking pictures and chatting. Our lunch was 3pm as the buffet only begins from 3pm to 6pm.

Too bad, Sheena,Justin and Calvin are unable to join us due to personal commitments. Calvin, hope u get well soon. Sheena, hope everything's ok with ur grandpa and Justin, stay happy and take care of ur health too.

Gina still in States, and hope she's fine and happy there. Hope to meet up with her when i'm in the States.

Even though, most of the gang are not with us during the lunch buffet, we enjoyed each others company. Although I was already tired window shopping/shopping with de gals, I could tell tat they're happy. So long they're happy, i dun mind accompanying these wonderful gals for shopping. Seeing ur good friends smile after exams really made u feel good.

How I wonder, when I look back to the times when we were all in NUS with each others company, lunching, dinnering, camping during orientations, having tests, lectures,etc...
Wat I believe is tat friends will always be forever as long as u treat them well and respect...

Luv ur friend as u will want them to luv u the same way!

Will put up pictures from the day's events soon...
